As part of federal government approvals, a formal public comment period is now open for the Wongalee Wind Farm.
June 24, 2026
Wongalee is part of the North Queensland Super Hub, located on Yirendali Country near Prairie. It will generate up to 1.4GW of renewable energy and is designed to operate alongside existing agricultural land uses.
All proposed renewable energy developments in Queensland require distinct approvals from Local, State and Federal Government authorities. The project is now being assessed via the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act, which is designed to protect nationally significant plants, animals, ecology and heritage places.
The public comment period is open from Wednesday 24 June until 5pm Tuesday 7 July 2026.
Feedback received during the public comment period will inform updates to project documentation, prior to final submission for approval later in the year.
View the approval documents here, under Wongalee, Federal approvals. You can also view hard copies of the documents at Hughenden Public Library and Queensland State Library.
